Lake Garda is one of the most beautiful places in North Italy. Because of it’s small towns, beautiful nature and unique culture this pearl is a must-visit-experience. Lake Garda is the biggest lake in Italy and is very special because of it’s mild climate. You will therefore see a lot of olive and citrus trees around the lake and especially a lot in some of the towns. The population has a big variation of local products made out of these and there is festivals held accord to this. Since there is so many places around this Lake one should visit I’ve made this top 3 guide over my favourite places.

1. Sirmione

Number one of my list must be the island Sirmione in the Province of Brescia. This extremely pretty island is famous for it’s thermal water with it’s healing properties, historic ruins and picturesque nature. Sirmione is one of the most visited places in Lake Garda.

Where to stay: We stayed at the beautiful Hotel Pace. Right next to the lake so you can see the amazing sunsets and eat breakfast at the terrace while enjoying the view. The rooms are decorated in a luxurious way and makes you feel like a princess with 17/1800’s style decor. Where to eat: Bar Moderno has a very nice view and the seafood plate is so delicious! What to do: Visit the historic ruins like the ancient Roman Villa of the first imperial era, known as the Grottoes of Catullus. Also make sure to visit the Castello Scaligero with beautiful view over the town and lake.

2. Limone Sul Garda

This one is very close to number one. Simone Sul Garda is an amazing little town with narrow streets, no cars, located by the lake and the houses is built right in the hillside. That makes the town so unique and very nice to walk around in. You will see again a lot of citrus elements and the shopping is quite good as well.

Where to eat: Ristorante Gemma is very cute and right by the Lake so the view is great. What to do: Walk a lot! Just walk from one end to the other of the city, upwards and down by the lake. That is the attraction in it self! Also check out the Museum of Tourism and the tiny, but beautiful church Chiesa San Rocco.

3. Malcesine

This place is so gorgeous and has everything! Old town by the beautiful lake, a cable car you can take up to the mountains and ruins in the middle of the city. This one is also a spot you must visit when in Garda. Eat some delicious ice cream by the docs and enjoy the car-free area.

Where to stay: Hotel Dolomiti offers both a swimming pool and is very central.  Where to eat: Have some delicious gelato (ice cream) from Il Gelato Malcesine. They have the best ice cream I have tasted during our time in Italy! What to do: Take the cable car up to Monte Baldo and experience not only the fun ride up but also amazing view over Lake Garda. Also visit The Scaliger Castle of Malcesine and see the amazing view and interesting architecture of the castle.
